Five Years is too Long for Telus Dispute
Lunney Presses Labour Minister for Binding Arbitration
NANAIMO— Dr. James Lunney, MP for Nanaimo-Alberni, has written federal Labour Minister Joe Fontana calling for intervention in the ongoing Telus dispute. In the letter, Lunney calls for the Minister to use the authority of his office to order binding arbitration in order to settle the prolonged labour dispute.
After meeting with “frustrated and upset” local Telus workers, Lunney called for immediate federal government intervention before “poisoned relationships cause permanent damage.”
“Contract negotiations between Telus and its unionized workers have been stalled for nearly five years and we have seen first hand the effects this long dispute has had on Telus workers and their families,” said Lunney.
“The uncertainty caused by this conflict has had adverse effects not only on Telus employees but on customers and shareholders as well. Let’s move this dispute towards resolution,” concluded Lunney.
